Takabonerate National Marine Park

SWIMMING, diving, snorkeling, and fishing, are some fun activities in Takabonerate National Marine Park. It is the third largest coral atoll in the world. Coral reefs are healthy and beautiful. The place is also rich of marine fauna.
Location of Object
Takabonerate National Marine Park is located in Selayar Archipelago Regency. About 25 kilometers from Benteng, capital city of Selayar, or 300 kilometers from Makassar City.
Overview
Takabonerate National Marine Park is an area that is still natural intact. Throughout the eyes look only blue sea and coral that looks swell. The marine park is surrounded by green islands with various plants and has a sloping white sandy beach.
It is the third largest coral atoll in the world after Kwajifein in the Marshal Islands and Suvadiva in the Maldives Islands. Atoll area is about 220,000 hectares. Coral reefs that live in it spread 500 square kilometers flat.
There are 261 species of coral reefs that have been identified from 17 families. Very beautiful and looks colorful in the seabed and become ornamental fish habitat. Most species of coral has formed the coral reef atoll (Barrier Reef) and the edge of coral reefs (fringing Reef). Everything grows healthy.
While the plants in coastal areas are dominated by coconut (cocos nucifera), sea pandanus (pandanus sp), sea pine (casuarina equisetifolia), and hamilton (terminalia catappa).
There are approximately 295 species of reef fish and various species of consumption fish, which have high economic value, such as grouper, tuna, napoleon wrasse, and baronang. The turtles which are recorded are shell turtle, the green turtle, cracked turtle.
There are also 244 species of mollusc, including lola, goat head shellfish, triton, batulaga, kima shell, pearl shell, and the hollowing nautilus (Nautilus pompillius).
There are 15 islands in the Takabonerate National Marine Park. Some accommodation is available owned by local residents such as lodging. View of stunning sunset and sunrise can be seen in all islands.
Best Visit Season
April to June and October to December.
Access
To go to the object is not too difficult. Tourists should through Benteng, capital city of Selayar Archipelago Regency. There are two ways to go there, with the aircraft and by bus.
With the aircraft, there is a flight with Casa small aircraft from Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar to Hajj Aroepala Airport in Benteng. See flight.
Meanwhile, with the bus, trip started from Terminal Mallengkeri in Makassar, to the Port of Bulukumba. Then cross over to the Port of Pamatata in Selayar. From Pamatata go to Benteng in the main of Selayar Archipelago Regency.
From Benteng to Rajuni Small Island as the nearest island in Takabonerate National Marine Park from mainland of Selayar. Trip to the island takes five hours by timber ship.
