Makassar China Town

LIKE other cities in the world, Makassar also has an area called China Town. The resident calledpecinan. In this area people held the celebration of Imlek (Chinese new years) and Cap Go Meh (15th day after Imlek) every year. Various attractions and typical Chinese art can be witnessed here.

Location Object 
China Town is located in the middle of Makassar City. It is divided in two districts, namely Wajo District and Ujungpandang District, Makassar, South Sulawesi. Location of China Town Gate is only 400 meters from the central of Makassar City (Karebosi Field). 

Overview 
China Town area cover is more than 44 s hectares. China Town located across the port of Makassar. In addition as an enclave with all of characteristics in it, China Town gives a little touch of cosmopolitan taste for Makassar. 

Glance, this area does not appear to stand out. However, this area has been set as one tourism place by former Mayor of Makassar Amiruddin Maula. The marker is a unique gateway China architectural. 

There are three Chinese worship places calledKlenteng with thick taste enough of Chinese nuance. China Town formed as blocks of settlements. Also in the settlement the comers established their business such as stores, shops, or restaurants. Therefore, the area is rich with China culinary. 

There are no official records since when Chinese immigrants arrived in Makassar. But people still maintain the things that typical carnival as Imlek and Cap Go Meh. Carnival became annual agenda that attracts many tourists attention. 

Access 
Because of the location near the city center, China Town easily can be accessed. Tourist can use public transport, taxi, or pedicab/tricycle.
