Makassar Arts Building

WOULD you like to see the various theaters, exhibition of paintings, installation art, music concerts, and others? Come to Building Arts of South Sulawesi. The building feels very unique because was an ancient building that still maintained the authenticity.

Location 
Arts Building of South Sulawesi located at Riburane Street 15. The distance is only about 600 meters western of the central city of Makassar (Karebosi Field). 

South Sulawesi Arts Building

In Dutch language, the building called Societeit de Harmonie, means clubhouse harmony. In the past, this building was not only used for arts events, but also as a meeting place for the governor, mayor, and Netherlands Military Official. 

This is a 19th century Europe architective, Renaisance or New Greek styled. Societeit de Harmonie in Makassar built in 1896. During the Japanese occupation (1942-1945), this building served as a city hall. Besides has been used as a place to meet, this building was also used for the performing arts. 

In the period after independence, this building switched functions, as a function of the office building and as a show. In 1998, arts practitioners successfully urged the Government of South Sulawesi Province to function as a fully art building as well as renovate the building and performance equipment. 

Since 2001, youth and arts practitioners in South Sulawesi designated this historical building with the name Building Arts of South Sulawesi Societeit de Harmoni.(*)
