Butterfly Kingdom

ENGLISH naturalist, Alfred William Wallace, decided to stay in Bantimurung area in 1856 until 1857. He interested in the colors of butterfly. He was more interesting when he knew some of butterflies are rare species.

Location of Objects
Object located in a same region with Bantimurung Waterfall Tourism Object, in District Bantimurung, Maros Regency, South Sulawesi Province. It's about 15 kilometers east of Maros Regency Capital or 45 km north of the central city of Makassar. Butterfly kingdom located in the range of rocky mountain of Maros-Pangkep. 

Overview
The location is spectacular as it considered in the valley of steep limestone hills with lush tropical vegetation. That is a perfect requirement environment to be a habitat for many kinds of rare butterfly. There are also rare birds. According to Wallace, so many little places like this in the world. He called this place as Kingdom of Butterfly.

One type of butterfly that lives in that location is papillo androcoles. This is biggest and very rare butterfly. It tile like bird tile. At this time, the visitors can still watching the beautiful colorful butterfly. Fly every which way between the flowers and bushes that meet the rocky-stone mountain. 

In recent years, the population of butterfly there now is much reduced because of uncontrollable arrest by people. Resident catch and make it to be gifts. Luckily, Butterfly Breeding Center, an organization formed specifically to conduct rescue the endangered species from extinction, has been carrying out protection. 

Access 
To reach the Kingdom of butterfly, tourists can use several ways. Can use private cars or rent a car or through reservation of Sultan Hasanuddin Airport. There is also public transportation. Trip to tourism object takes about two hours. 

With private cars or rent car, from the center of the city through to Reformasi highway or Port highway, then follow the entrance to Sutami highway, next to Maros. From Maros take direction to Bantimurung. Also can through Perintis Kemerdekaan Road or without going through the highway. 

With public transport, tourists depart from Daya Regional Terminal, take transportation to Maros. Get off at the Maros terminal and connect to Bantimurung. 

Entrance Ticket 
Rates to come to tourism object are not expensive, only Rp 5,000 for adults and Rp 3,500 for children. If using a private car or rent a car subjected parking charge.
